About

Wine Industry Profile - Jacqueline Sugden

I spent 13 years in the Australian wine industry before returning to the UK in 2007:–

1 Year full-time student at University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Campus, S. Australia

2 Years as Apprentice Winemaker at Bowen Estate, Coonawarra South Australia

10 Years as Co-Owner/Co-Winemaker at Nuggetty Vineyard, Bendigo Region, Victoria

Nuggetty Vineyard - a small wine producer, only 1000 cases per year of premium wines from a 25 acre vineyard planted to Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Emphasis on hand-made wines…hand tended vines, hand harvested, small open fermenters plunged by hand, compressed-air Press for soft, gentle press with no crushing of pips or tearing of skins, finest oak barriques for barrel fermentation and maturation.

We also had a Cellar Door open at weekends for tastings and wine functions, including wine appreciation classes. Weddings and functions were also catered for.

Wine education:

  • Diploma of Wine Marketing at University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Campus
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science) at University of New South Wales, Wagga Wagga Campus.

From 2007-2012 employed as Retail Manager/Wine Buyer at Martinez Wines, 35 The Grove, Ilkley, West Yorkshire - responsibilities covered wine buying, corporate sales, events and functions, wine tastings and wine appreciation courses, web sales and website maintenance, marketing, PR, wine list design, product knowledge, staff training and general management of the shop.

Since October 2012 new owner of The Wine Shop, Grassington.
